Celtic knots are sacred symbols passed down from the Celts. Not much history of the knots is available before the beginning of the Christian influence on the Celts in about A.D. 450. There is some evidence for the use of geometric patterns as decoration, mostly in jewelry before that time. There are no facts to indicate that a knot had any specific philosophical or religious significance beyond perhaps the obvious: the complexity of God's creation and man's circuitous path through life. Modern wiccans in some covens have started creating the Celtic knots, assigning to them ideas and magical properties that were not there originally. The ancient Celts felt no need to attribute meaning to their design, therefore modern viewers assign significance to them.
