Chainmail (or chainmaille) armor was the first type of medieval armor developed and was one of the most prized items a warrior could own. Chainmail was commonly worn by knights on the battlefield and was constructed through the interlinking of metal links to form a mesh barrier of protection against attack. Chainmail provided a number of benefits to those who wore it. In addition to being easy to get in and out of, chainmail provided a high degree of protection while still allowing for high levels of mobility.
