Edward VI was King of England and King of Ireland from January 28, 1547 until his death. Edward VI, the only surviving son of King Henry VIII was England's first Protestant king. It was in Edward's reign that the decisive move was made from Catholicism to a form of Protestantism. Edward came to the throne at a very young age, when he was nine years old. By the time of his death, 15 year old Edward was enough the master of his own destiny to have concerns about the succession.
