Quick Overview

The Italian Cabasset Helmet was commonly worn by the foot soldiers of Italy and Spain during the 1600's. This skillfully hand-crafted helmet is from 18-gauge steel and featuring brass fittings, the Italian Cabasset piece can be worn or used as decoration. No lining or suspension is provided, this allows for individual customizing.

Cabasset was an open helmet worn by foot soldiers in the second half of the 16th century and throughout the 17th century. It has a narrow brim and usually has a curious little point projecting from the top. The name is Italian and means "pear", and the little point is supposed to represent the stem. The real function of the little point is unknown. The helmet being pointed or "cone head", would allow sword blows to glance off. Most cabassets are plain but a few are etched or embossed. Some fake cabassets are cast to look like embossed helmets. Purchase your Helmet Lining / Arming Cap here.
