Knight was the most significant military figure of the feudal system of the European Middle Ages. He was mounted warrior dressed in a suit of armor. The word knight derived from the Old English word cniht, meaning horseman. Knighthood boomed before the time of guns when battles were still won by hand-to-hand conflicts of heavy-armored knights. Their major undertake were the Crusades, where thousands died. Even in time of peace, knights looked for conflicts in which to engage.
