Swordsman's Shirt
|
Swordsman's Shirt is a shirt from the Elizabethan era. Notice the narrowed sleeve that is fitted to best suit a swordsman for battle. There's no billowy sleeve here to interfere with serious parry and thrust. At the height of its popularity, from 1500-1600, gentlemen frequently wore this shirt outside the pants, highlighted with a colorful sash. We drew our inspiration for this authentic pattern from the Elizabethan era; even the tie on the sleeve is authentic to the period.
Made from 100% cotton, this splendid shirt is professionally serged and easy to care for. Available in black, white or purple. Colors may vary slightly.
The Elizabethan Era is the period associated with the reign of Queen Elizabeth and is often considered to be a golden age in English history. It was the height of the English Renaissance and saw the flowering of English literature and poetry. Elizabethan court fashion was heavily influenced by Spanish and French styles. Toward the end of the reign, the fashion for blackwork gradually gave way to polychrome work in silk that foreshadows the crewelwork in wool.
