|
German Sallet. Add beauty and distinction to your home with this skillfully handcrafted fully wearable life size helmet made of 18 gauge steel.
Open sallets were used by archers and billmen they tended to be closely shaped to the skull with a long tail. They were favored by the German armorers of the late 1400's.
Sallet was a European helmet used during the first half of the 15th century. The close-fitting skull of the sallet extended backwards in a broad tail, which gradually became longer in the course of the century. Some sallets were equipped with a hinged visor, while others had a sight cut into the front of the skull. A chin guard called bevor could be worn together with the sallet, but it was quite unpopular due to breathing and head movement restrictions. The sallet was perhaps the most common type of helmet in the latter part of the 15th century and was worn by both cavalryman and foot soldiers.
