Classic Chemise is made from the same soft 100% cotton muslin used to back baby quilts. The chemise is machine washable. This chemise with a drawstring neckline has very full and long sleeves. Classic Chemise goes great with all our gowns. One size fits all. The chemise is worn under all outfits like a medieval slip. Chemises absorb the body's soils and leave less wear and tear on the outer garment which was usually more expensive. The chemise still does the same job today. It seems that the chemise has been developed from the Roman tunica and first became popular in the European Middle Ages. In those times, it was the only piece of clothing that was washed regularly. Women wore chemise underneath their gowns, while men wore them as shirts with their trousers and covered the chemise with doublets or robes. |
