Maintz Pattern Gladius
|
Maintz Pattern Gladius features full tang construction, high carbon blade, and hardwood handle. High polished steel spacer at the bottom of the handle for strength and durability. The overall length of the Maintz Pattern Gladius is 29 1/4" with a 21" long blade. Maintz Pattern Gladius comes complete with a leather scabbard.
The Roman Army's approach to warfare was direct and pragmatic. It chose the Gladius as its principal sidearm because it was practical and efficient and excelled in any close combat situation. Maintz Pattern Gladius served side-by-side for many years and it was not uncommon to find 4th century Legionnaires carrying the model. The gladius was known as "the sword that conquered the world."
The early Gladius (our version is the Maintz pattern) was wasp waisted with a long point that combined cutting power and stabbing ability in one handy weapon. Real camel bone handle and ornate brass appliqué on the scabbard.
