Buttcap For Greek Spear
|
Buttcap for Greek Spear, spike-ended buttcap, protects the shaft and keeps it from splintering, provides a last resort back up, should the spear tip be broken off and gives balance for the spear. The overall length of the Buttcap for Greek Spear is 8 1/2 inches. This buttcap is constructed of high carbon steel.
With the discovery of metal, spears became much more effective. In just about all cultures and climes, metal butt caps were used to protect the base of the shaft, and to add balance to the overall weapon. Both are basically European, and can be used for any spear since the beginning of the Iron Age. The buttcaps are well made of mild steel, and give an improved appearance as well as balancing the spear. These are generic, and do not represent any one specific time or place. They could also be used as a secondary spearhead should the primary spearhead be broken.
