Greek Spearhead
|
Greek Spearhead is constructed of high carbon steel. The overall length of the Greek Spearhead is 16", with an 11" long blade. Ash pole is not included.
The Greek Hoplite was a heavily armed foot soldier whose principal weapon was "the long shadowed spear." It was a weapon that varied in length from 6 to 18 feet, and could be used both as spear and pike. Shorter versions were used as throwing weapons. The earlier versions were made of bronze, but iron, once it was available, became the material of choice.
Warfare in Greece centered mostly around heavy infantrymen called hoplites. The word hoplite comes from 'hoplon', referring to an item of armor or equipment. Almost all of the famous men of Greece, including the playwrights and philosophers, fought as hoplites at some point. Due to the heavy armor worn by hoplites, they usually dressed right before a battle. Hoplites usually provided their own gear, therefore it was fairly non-uniform. The disadvantage was that friendly troops would fail to recognize each other.
