Two Hand Practice Sword
|
Two Hand Practice Sword is fully seasoned and hand crafted in solid hardwood to be strong enough to meet the needs of today's swordsman (or woman). Each can take the abuse of sparring and reenacting, even edge-to-edge. (Keep in mind, however, that wood can break along the grain.) The designs represent edge weapons common from the 12th to 15th centuries.
A wooden sword or "waster" allowed a warrior to practice full combat safely and economically while preserving his precious steel for the real battle to come.
The two-handed sword of medieval Europe had a number of names, most fairly self-explanatory. Great in size and weight, they required two hands to use. Most simple two-handed swords were characterized by long straight blades, straight quillons, and a long hilt sufficient for grasping with two hands. Despite their straight blades, two-handed swords were designed for swinging, rather than just thrusting. It was one of the few swords designed to and capable of crushing through heavy armor. A great deal of strength and space were needed to use a two-handed sword well. Two-handed weapons were most popular in Germany and England.
