Flat Ended Butt Cap can be used for any spear since the beginning of the Iron Age. Flat Ended Butt Cap is well made of mild steel, and gives an improved appearance as well as balancing the spear. Our Butt Cap is generic, and does not represent any specific time or place. Flat Ended Butt Cap is ready to mount. The overall length of the butt cap is 5". Ash Pole not included.
With the discovery of metal, spears became much more effective. In just about all cultures, metal butt caps were used to protect the base of the shaft, keep spears from splintering, and give balance for the spear. But, they cleverly realized it could also be used as a secondary spearhead should the primary spearhead be broken. This steel butt cap is of a generic European design.
