One Hand Practice Sword
|
One Hand Practice Sword is fully seasoned and hand crafted in solid hardwood to be strong enough to meet the needs of today's swordsman (or woman). Each can take the abuse of sparring and reenacting, even edge-to-edge. (Keep in mind, however, that wood can break along grain lines.) The designs represent edge weapons common from the 12th to 15th centuries. One Hand Practice Sword has an overall length of 38 1/4".
A wooden sword or "waster" allowed a warrior to practice full combat safely and economically while preserving his precious steel for the real battle to come.
For the most part, medieval swords were almost always one-handed weapons used in conjunction with a sturdy, metal-rimmed shield. Medieval swords existed in great varieties over a number of centuries. They have been classified into a great many categories; certain common characteristics can describe the "generic" medieval sword as a long, straight, double-edged blade with a simple cross-guard (or "cruciform" hilt). This common form was a one-handed weapon used for hacking, shearing cuts and also for limited thrusting.
Overall Length: 38 1/4"
Blade Length: 31 3/4"
Blade Width: 2"
