Decorated Chemise
|
Irish Decorated Chemise made of 100% cotton muslin and machine washable. The decorated chemise with a drawstring neckline has very full and long sleeves with trim sewn on the sleeves. Knee length; one size fits all. Recommended to wear with all our gowns.
The chemise is a French term. Italians called it camicia, the English called it smock and Irish called it a leine. The purpose of chemise was to protect clothing from sweat and body oils. Chemise seems to have been developed from the Roman tunica and first became popular in the European Middle Ages. Women wore chemises underneath their gowns or robes; men wore them with their trousers and under their doublets or robes.
