Celtic Knot Pendant
|
The Celtic Knot Pendant is styled little differently that the others. The Celtic knot pendant is crafted of sterling silver. It is of round shape, measuring approximately 1 1/8 inches in diameter. The inside of the circle is in shape of a cross that is detailed with knotwork.
In today's era of Celtic appreciation many knotwork designs have been assigned various meanings. However, knots appeared in repeating patterns that were used to fill borders and empty spaces in illuminated manuscripts, sculptures, and jewelry. The knots did not, generally, appear as isolated elements. Therefore, it can be said that the Celts did not use knots as specific symbols. They did not have different knots to represent specific ideas or concepts. Knots were just nifty ways to fill a space. The symbolism of connectedness and continuity may have been an intended effect, but there's no evidence to suggest that knotwork patterns mean anything more than that.
