Falcata (Kopis) Horse Head
|
The Falcata Horse Head features an unsharpened carbon steel blade with deep etched grooves. The hilt is solid brass with a bone grip and horse head pommel. The falcata includes a matching wood scabbard with red leather covering and brass accents, and a small utility knife. The scabbard mounts both the sword as well as the knife, used for close combats. The overall length of the Falcata Horse Head is 24 1/4 inches.
The kopis is an ancient single-edged sword with heavy forward-cutting blade, designed for delivering strong cutting blows. Some scholars believe that the word was formed from the Cannan/Egyptian khopesh. It is often compared to the shorted Nepalese kukri. The word itself is the Greek feminine singular noun derived from the verb kopto, meaning 'to cut.' Though kopis is a Greek word, the ancient Greeks didn't often use curved blade in warfare; they preferred the straight xiphos.
