The Gauntlets Pair are historically accurate medieval gloves; prefect for any reenactor. The inside of gauntlets includes leather gloves for comfortable and easy use. The gauntlets are fully wearable. The gauntlet gloves are hand-made, constructed of stainless steel. The overall length of the Gauntlets Pair is 15 inches. The original term "gauntlet" in English was derived from Middle French "gantelet," meaning an armored glove. Gauntlet is a protective glove and a form of armor used to protect the wrist, hand, fingers and forearms. They may be made of leather, chainmail or fully-articulated metal plates. in the past, gauntlets were an essential piece of armor, since the hands and arms were especially vulnerable in hand-to-hand combat. With the rise of easily- reloadable firearms, hand-to-hand combat became less common and so gauntlets lost most of their strategic value. In present day, gauntlets are mostly used in contact sports, such as fencing. |
