The term quadrille was coined in the 17th century, where four horsemen and their horses performed special square shaped formation or figurines. The term could be derived from Spanish word 'cuadrillo', diminutive of cuatro, meaning four or from the Latin 'quadratus,' meaning square. Today, the term quadrille is used for a dance, which involves four couples arranged in the shape of square with each couple facing the center of the square. The quadrille depended mostly on the cooperative execution of intertwining figures, as can be seen on our Dragon Quadrille – the intertwining dragons, or floor patterns.
