The Chalice Well tapestry is made of 100% cotton, color-fast, pre-shrunk and machine washable. The tapestry features the design of Chalice Well - two interlocking circles, as well as Celtic knots around the border. The Chalice Well tapestry is available in Autumn Red. The two interlocking circles of the iron work are of ancient origin and the symbolism has been found as the basis for numerous earth works and structures throughout the world. The Chalice Well is designed after a 13th century pattern and represents the Bleeding Lance holding in balance the Visible and the Invisible Worlds interlocked with each other. It can also represent the Yin and the Yang, the meeting of the Conscious and the Unconscious and the blending of our Masculine and Feminine Natures. The Chalice Well is one of the oldest continuously used holy wells in Britain. Archaeology has shown that the Spring was used by prehistoric tribes who inhabited this land, and for the last 2000 years the site has been in constant use. Chalice Well is fed by a spring which rises on the slope of Chalice Hill and gives an outflow of 25,000 gallons a day. The water is chalybeate, impregnated with iron, and beautifully clear. The Well itself is built of massive stones and forms two chambers, the inner one being reached through an opening at the foot of the western wall of the shaft. The whole structure is orientated roughly north and south. |
