The Celtic moon and symbol of the heavens is delicately decorated with Celtic knotwork.
The Celts, like most other cultures of the time, kept their calendar in correspondence to the moon phases, assigning names and attributes to each full moon. The moon was of great importance, the Druids of ancient Britain utilizing a type of zodiacal "wheel" in which the Moon, or Lunar cycles, was the main focus as opposed to Westernized astrology which focuses on the Sun.
All together, Celts had fourteen different moons. January through December, the Celtic moons were as follows: Storm, Chaste, Seed, Hare, Dyad, Mead, Wort/Wyrt, Barley, Blood, Snow, Oak, and Cold Moon. The last two moons, Blue and Black Moon were variable moons. Blue moon occurred when a moon in its 20 day cycle appeared twice within the same calendar month. Black moon occurred when there were tow dark cycles of the moon in any given calendar month.
