Richard the Lionheart Shield
|
Richard the Lionheart Shield carries Richard's crest of three lions "guardant passant", walking to the left with heads faced to the front. The three golden lions are above each other on a field of crimson, the coat of arms originally adopted by Richard's father and mother, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Richard the Lionheart is considered by many to be the epitome of the great Crusader Knights of the Middle Ages – King, Knight, Scholar and Leader. He was a leader in the fields as well as at tournaments, where women swooned at the thought of being championed by the Lionheart.
This fine lion crest shield is beautifully rendered and historically accurate. The broadly curved bottom and scalloped top are typical of shields of the late twelfth century. The Richard the Lionheart Shield is a perfect display piece for anywhere you want to add color and authentic historical detail.
Overall Height: 24 1/4"
