European Pigface Basinet helmet style became popular in the late 13th century widely replacing the Great Helmet because of its close fit styling. Towards the late 14th century the long snouted appearance had earned it the English nickname Hounskull, or "Pig-faced basinet." This exceptional full size helmet is skillfully hand-crafted of 18 gauge steel and adorned with brass accents. Each European Pigface Basinet is wearable and will make an impressive addition to your collection.

A bascinet was a Medieval European open-faced helmet, typically fitted with an aventail and hinged visor. They were sometimes called "dog faced" or "pig faced." The bascinet was the most common helmet worn in Europe during the latter portions of the 14th century and early 15th century. Contemporary illustrations show nearly every knight and man-at-arms wearing one of a few variants of the basic "pig faced" helmet. Over the course of late 1300s to early 1400s, the bascinet evolved from its more pointed form to a more globular form. Please Note: The brass trim at the back is featured only on the picture
