The knights of this religious military order (founded during the Crusades in the 12th century) favored a strong but beautiful sword. The order was founded around 1118 by French knights Hughes de Payens, a veteran of the First Crusade, and Godfrey de St Omer for the protection of pilgrims on the road from Jaffa and Jerusalem. At first, the knights, being nine in number, relied on gifts and cast-offs. As a result they were originally known as the Poor Knights of Christ. Length: 44" Weight: 5 lbs
